Let it snow
Last saturday we did something typically Canadian: snowshoeing. The snowshoe was invented by Canadian First Nations.

Unfortunately, the new designs don’t look like tennis rackets anymore.

I had signed us up with the Sierra Club, an environmental organisation active in Canada and the US. They have a local branch in Vancouver. We were running a bit late so we thought they had already left so we started on our own. Vancouver has three mountains with snow where you can go skiing and snowboarding. We went to mount Seymour covered with a thick layer of snow, very nice. It is unbelieveable that down in the city it is raining and up on the mountain it is snowing making everything white like a fairy tale.

The good think about snowshoeing is that you can go into the woods. We were the first ones on this trail so it was tough. Even with the snowshoes on you can sink deep into the snow.

After an hour or so we ran into the Sierra club, it turned out that everybody was late so we were the first ones. We hooked up with them and continued. When a few people are walking in front of you it is a lot easier, the trail is cleared. We came across a slope where some people wanted to slide of from, including Mike.

During lunch some birds tried to get food from us, this one sat on my snowshoe.

Afterwards we went to the pub with some Sierra club members, very gezellig.
