Working on the trails
Today I’ve been outside all day to work on the trails. While Leon and Brian put the markings up I cleared the trail from branches and fallen (little) trees.

A few big trees were cut down by beavers and fell on the trail.

They need to take down the trees to reach the smaller branches.

Then they build a nice dam.

In my opinion it would be much easier to cut smaller trees like this beaver has done.
But the big logs had to be sawed to clear the trail.

A few years ago a part of the trail was destroyed, but not only that. All trees were logged at once, clear cut. The trail couldn’t be found anymore so a new one was made. It is very unreal to walk through this, one moment you’re walking between gigantic trees and the next you’re walking in a sort of moon landscape.

Unfortunately the trail is also visited by vandals who pulll out the marking poles. Luckely there are tools to fix it: first a little hole is drilled….

And then a new pole is put in the ground.

This forest is ‘second growth’, the trees were logged many years ago and now it is a full grown forest again. The old stumps remain standing between the new trees and they are huge. How big would this ceder have been?
