Linda's Canadian Adventure

I have arrived in Holland and it’s very nice to be back home for awhile!!!

Gisteren ben ik gearriveerd in Nederland en het is heel fijn om weer even thuis te zijn!!!!!

It has been a few weeks, but in the last week my father was here we did some fun things. We have traveled three days up the sunshine coast. There are a lot of islands here so we had to take the ferry.

When we were waiting we got entertainment from the hummingbirds. Sometimes 20 came to drink from the birdfeeder.

We saw beautiful spots.

The last evening we went for sushi, a new experience for Rob.

Het is alweer een paar weken geleden, maar in de laatste week dat m’n vader hier was hebben nog leuke dingen gedaan. We zijn drie dagen met z’n drieen (Rob, William en ik) op stap geweest richting het noorden langs de kust. De kust bestaat uit eilandjes dus moesten we met de veerboot.

Tijdens het wachten op de veerboot maak je heel wat mee. De kolibri’s die uit de fles dronken waren een waar spectakel, soms waren het er wel 20!

We zijn mooie plekjes tegengekomen.

De laatste avond hebben sushi gegeten, een nieuwe ervaring voor Rob.

On saturday William and I picked my father up from the airport and went straight to the ‘Red Room’ dowtown. Damsel Fly was playing and we didn’t want to miss it. It was a big transition for Rob after spending 12 hours in an airplane.

We got up early on sunday because we had another trip planned. We went to the cabin of Mike’s parents, along the way we stopped at a few nice spots.

As soon as we arrived at the cabin Claire and Wing took the canoe out for a trip on the lake.

We had a very good time as well !!!

Zaterdag hebben William en ik m’n vader opgehaald van het vliegveld en zijn direct naar de ‘Red Room’ gegaan. Damsel Fly moest spelen dus dat wilden we niet missen. Het was wel een heftige overgang voor Rob na 12 uur in het vliegtuig gezeten te hebben.

Zondag weer vroeg op omdat we weer een reisje voor de boeg hebben. We zijn naar het vakantiehuisje van de ouders van Mike gereden. Onderweg kwamen we ook nog leuke plekjes tegen waar we even gestopt zijn.

Het gezellig Whistler waar op de gletsjer nog geskied wordt,

maar in het dal worden de pistes nu door mountainbikers gebruikt.

Bij het huisje aangekomen werd direct de kano te water gelaten en Claire en WingF gingen peddelen.

om vervolgens weer de stad in te gaan

Wat vond je van de vakantie Claire?

Wij vonden het ook heel gezellig !!

Bedankt dat jullie allemaal je bed uit zijn gekomen om helemaal naar Canada te bellen om op Damsel Fly te stemmen! Het heeft geholpen want ze zijn erdoor!!! Er zijn nu 10 bands over en de volgende ronde is weer een eliminatieronde. Dit keer moeten ze optreden samen met een andere band dus blijf duimen!!

De band waar Mike in speelt heeft de top 20 gehaald van een wedstrijd op de radio. Het is nu een afvalrace dus elke avond kunnen de luisteraars kiezen tussen twee bands. Aanstaande donderdag is het de beurt aan Damsel Fly. Tussen 18:00 en 20:00 kan er gestemd worden per telefoon, sms en internet. Dit betekent voor Nederlandse tijd tussen 3:00 en 5:00 op vrijdagochtend. Ik begrijp dat dit een onmogelijke tijd is, maar voor de slapeloze of feestgangers onder ons: Stem op Damsel Fly en ga naar www.cfox.com/music/seeds/

Claire and Wing have visited me for two weeks, we have had a lot of adventures and here’s a short impression

Claire turned thirty and we celebrated!

There was still snow on Grouse Mountain, it was something new for Wing with his sneakers

On the Capilano suspension bridge. A place for tourists since the first bridge was built in 1889 of hemp and wood

The ferry to Vancouver is an adventure because the boat sails in between a lot of little islands.

Victoria is the capital of BC and this is the parlement building

We drove from Victoria to Tofino and passed a lot of beautiful spots along the way

Cathedral Grove: old growth forest with 800 year old trees that have been saved from the chainsaw
This Douglas fir is 76 meters high and has a circumpherence of 9 meters

Tofino is located on the westcoast of Vancouver Island, finally you can view the Pacific ocean. Tofino is surrounded by beautiful rainforest, the Clayoquot Sound Region is a UNESCO Biosphere. It took a lot of protests and actions of environmentalists to save this piece of nature from clearcutting.
