Busy in Holland
A huge tent to sleep in…
On sunday we went on a nice sailing trip on the Eemmeer

Mike wanted to see more of the Netherlands so we did. We took the train to Maastricht and visited the caves in mount Saint Pieter.

The caves are the result of centuries of excavation of marl, a building stone. The stone-hewers have left their marks, some artwork in charcoal can be seen. During the many sieges Maastricht has suffered, and also during the last world war, local inhabitants used the passages as a shelter; some of the emergency provisions are still to be seen. The temperature in the caves is 9-10 degrees Celcius, a perfect temperature for Mike.
The only mountain in Holland is for a Candian a bit of a joke.
The city of Utrecht
The beautiful canals of Utrecht
A beer on one of the many patios is obligatory, but very nice!
The city of The Hague
A picnic on the beach of Scheveningen
Life is good at my mother’s house in de Kwakel
The town of Volendam
My mother joined us for a day in the fishing town Volendam where Mike ate a lot of eal (paling).

On Mike’s last evening we went out for diner with my father, mother, Carola and Linda. Mike is back in Canada already, but I’m staying for another 12 days.
