Back in Canada
I have been back for awhile so I should write some more about my adventures. We went away for a weekend with William and Sheri to the cabin of Mike’s parents.

It was great weather so perfect for a paddle in the canoe.

The forests of BC have a lot of problems with a small beetle, the mountain pine beetle (Dendroctonus ponderosae). Because of mild winters the population has grown and they destroy whole forests. The trees on the mountains around the cabin are next. Some trees are brown instead of green and won’t survive.

The very relaxing weekend came to an end with: a flat tire. Four citypeople couldn’t manage to change the tire. We were still on a dirt road so it wasn’t easy to reach a garage. Fortunately the neighbour came by with a pickup truck and he gave us a ride.

William and Sheri got a ride to Whistler and they took a cab home. Mike and I had to wait for the repair the next day. But a hotel is fine, especially the airco and shower.
This week was the ‘festival of lights’ in Vancouver. Four nights of fireworks by four countries and we saw three. China was very bombastic but overwhelming like fireworks are supposed to be. Czech was boring and Mexico the best.

The fireworks were launched from a barge in False Creek. We watched from the beach, but a lot of people take their boat into False Creek and watch from there.

Last weekend we went hiking and my muscles are still aching. The trail was very steep. Sometimes the view is worth while but….. it was very very steep!
