Queen’s Day
It is April 30th, Queen’s Day in the Netherlands, not very noticeable in Vancouver. Fortunately my friend Claire did think of it. I received a parcel full of cool Dutch presents from her. Friday we had some friends over and I served Dutch cheese in my new apron and hat.

Apparently the summer has started early in the Netherlands, here it is still spring. Which means the animals are having babies and some of them end up at the Wildlife Rescue Association where I volunteer. Last week the first baby bird arrived, it wasn’t even fully hatched yet.

There are a few orphaned ducklins as well. They get a stuffed animal to replace their mother and they all snuggle up.

Finally I want to show the beaver. He has a big cut in his tail that is slowely healing. Meanwhile he chews on everything that comes his way. Everything made of plastic and wood is gone and a few doors needed reparing already. It is such a funny animal, not aggressive at all and very fond of apples.
