Party in De Kwakel???

Posted by: Linda | September 4, 2007, 1:13 am

This morning I went to see the parade in De Kwakel. De Kwakel has a party-week and the parade is part of this. People dress up like Haloween, but then differently. What I noticed the most (and I wasn’t impressed about this) is that everybody in the parade, and I mean everybody, was drinking beer. Most vehicles in the parade had a beer theme as well. A beer-zoo, a midget-pub, a beer-tank are a few examples.

Living in another society, (even though I don’t like the fact that I can’t drink a glass of wine on the beach) I start to notice these things more. I think this beer worshipping will increase the beer consumption among young people. A recent Dutch study shows that in the city of Eindhoven 1 out of 10 accidents with young victims alcohol is involved. They have alcohol poisoning or they are involved in traffic accidents and violence in the weekends. I don’t think it’s very wise for adults to drink large amounts of beer at 9am and showing to everybody.

I like to take in large amounts of chocolate cake instead like last night with Claire in Amsterdam.
