Garibaldi

Mike’s birthday was last Sunday, last year we had a surprise party, this year a monster hike. I’ve heard a lot of stories about the Garibaldi area, it is very beautiful and the hikes are very hard. Both thesis are true!

We’ve done the first 9 kilometres here, first 6 kilometres uphill and then a walk through beautifull meadows with an explosion of wild flowers. Far behind my head you can see a small black peak, this is the Black Tusk, that sounds intimidating and it is. It is also our destination.

FLowers with mountains in the background.

The view on Lake Garibaldi, the color of the water is amazingly blue.

I’m almost standing at the foot of the tusk. According to this sign, continuing is at your own risk. The last part is not far, but very difficult because it’s steep and made of loose vulcanic rocks. Especially downhill is very difficult. Because we’re not even halfway yet I decided that my climb is over, I’ll take a nap in the sun.

Mike did go up and this is the view I missed.

The hike continued to Garibaldi Lake where Justin reveiled a bottle of sparkling wine to toast on Mike’s birthday.

The lake with the glacier in the background, the water was very cold, but a couple of idiots went for a swim anyway.

A last view on the blue lake and we’re on our way back. Just downhill, sounds easy, but it was tough. With blisters on my feet and sunburned I made it down. What a beautiful area, I thought I had seen a lot here, but this was a highlight, too bad it’s such hard work!
